KCAB's Purpose
The Korean Community Advisory Board (KCAB) serves as an advisory to the Center for Family and Community Health (CFCH) on the Center's Core Research Projects and other Center Projects addressing the Korean American (KA) community.

Responsibilities of KCAB
Assists in identifying community-generated priorities on health.
Helps to determine health needs and sets priorities of the KA community.
Guides and inform the Center on how best to address the Center's Core Research Projects and other Center Projects addressing the KA community.
Helps conceptualize the scope of the Center's Core Research Project and other Center Projects addressing the KA community.
Ensures cultural sensitivity and appropriateness in the planning and implementation of the Center's Core Research Projects and other Center Projects addressing the KA community.
Assists with reporting and dissemination of research.
Assists in recruitment of new Board members.
Appoints representative(s) to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Prevention Research Center National and Regional Community Committees.


KCAB Membership
Type:
"Members" are expected to attend at least six out of nine regular meetings per year. Others who can not participate as "Members" may participate as "Affiliates." Affiliates are expected to attend at least one regular meeting per year in addition to the general meeting. The Board may invite others to attend meetings as appropriate.

Size & Diversity:
The Board shall consist of no more than 15 members.
The 15 representatives are to be balanced among:
(a) Health care providers
(b) Korean business sectors
(c) Faith-based organizations
(d) Elders, young adults, or home makers
(e) Educational institutions
(f) Health government or social institutions
(g) Others including media-related professionals.

Term:
1-year term with unlimited renewal.

Recruitment:
Other potential members shall be sought on an on-going basis to maintain the diversity of the membership.


KCAB Meetings:
Meetings Schedule:
The Board holds at least six regular meetings per year (January, March, May, July, September, November). The May meeting is a general meeting (inviting affiliates, appreciation, and annual accomplishments/review). Other meetings may be scheduled as needed.

Decision Rules/Voting:
Decisions reached through group consensus.

Meeting Facilitation:
Facilitation duties are rotated among the members with a different member facilitating three consecutive meetings.

Time/Day of Meeting:
To be decided by group consensus.
Meeting Location:
Meetings held at a place specified by the CFCH.


Standing Subcommittees and Ad Hoc Committies
The Board may form standing subcommittees and ad hoc committees to accomplish its work. Through this structure, more specific projects may be attempted.
Recommendations generated at the subcommittee and ad hoc committee meetings are to be reported at the KCAB meetings for further discussion and approval.

Structure of subcommittee:

May include a chairperson for the subcommittee who reports back to KCAB. Affiliates and any others who are interested or who can offer their expertise and resources can be invited to participate in the subcommittees/ad hoc committees. Participants can determine the frequency of meetings based on specified focus/purpose of subcommittees.

Amendments
This Structure and Operational Guidelines are to be amended as needed by group consensus.
